DRYER VENT CLEANING
We're CSIA dryer vent exhaust technicians
The accumulation of flammable dryer lint in dryer vents is one of the leading causes of house fires and property loss. Most homeowners are cognizant of cleaning out their dryer’s lint trap, but overtime, lint and other debris can get trapped inside of the dryer’s venting system. The longer the venting system, the greater the chance of lint accumulation. Such accumulations not only restrict airflow within the vent but also suffocate the dryer, forcing it to run hotter and longer.
TELL ME ABOUT THE PROCESS
The certified technician will begin inside the home by first checking to make sure the dryer vent connector immediately behind your unit is connected properly. The technician will then remove the connector and clean that portion of the venting. The connector will then be reconnected and the technician will turn the unit on.
Once the dryer is running, the technician will locate the exterior dryer vent termination. At the exhaust, while utilizing a velocity reader, the technician will get a before-cleaning velocity reading on the unit to see its current efficiency.
Next, a comprehensive inspection of the dryer vent routing will be performed to make sure it is up to current building codes and standards. The technician will then perform a dryer vent cleaning by using industry-tested and trusted techniques and equipment.
Once the system has been cleaned, the technician will take an after-cleaning velocity reading for your records, and include all of their findings in a report that you will receive at the conclusion of your dryer vent cleaning service.
How often you should schedule a dryer vent cleaning depends upon two things: the length of your dryer venting, and the frequency you run your unit. Without a professional inspection, it can be difficult to know just how dirty or clean your dryer venting is. For this reason, we highly recommend annual inspections. There are, however, there are a few things to look for that may indicate that you need to schedule a dryer vent cleaning.
Is it taking longer for your clothes to dry? When the vent is blocked or clogged, the dryer has to work much harder in order to dry each load of laundry. In these times, you may find yourself having to run the same load of laundry multiple times to get the moisture out.
Does your dryer feel hotter than usual? What about your clothes? In addition to taking longer to get the job done, clogged dryer vents and air-starved dryers get over-worked. The dryers themselves run at hotter temperatures, leaving your clothes hotter (although not necessarily dry) at the end of the dry cycle.
